4 Calling Birds

December 21, 2008

I am so not a bird person. Despite the fact I had my share of pet birds growing up (ducks, chickens, and cockateils), and I think birds can be pretty an all, I am not a bird person. I will never collect things with birds, don’t want dishes with birds, and normally run from art with birds. With that in mind, you can imagine how thrilled I am to realize that 7 of the 12 Days of Christmas involve some sort of bird. This has been a fantastic exercise in perserverence. For the first time in my life I have found online shopping to be a challenge. Who would have thought this day would ever come!

Believe it or not: shopping is not my first love. I’ve never sat and ranked it, but I’m guessing it is somewhere around tenth on the list. Shocking, I know. One of the things that outranks my compulsion to use my Amex is my love for baking. My dream is to someday be like Martha – only without that whole prison thing…

One of my favorites to bake (and eat) is pie. As much as I love making pretty patterns with a fork to vent the crust like my mother showed me to, I’ve always wanted a pie bird.

This one is a white porcelain pie bird  by Harold’s Kitchen, available from LaPrimaShops.com. Only $4.99!

Unnecessary? Maybe. But I still really want one!
